Modular construction is highly flexible – also when size is a key factor.

The newly built university hospital in Jena-Lobeda

With Cadolto Modular Construction, a great deal can be achieved. Starting on 28 January 2015, we used our modular system to help realize a major project – the largest hospital in the German state of Thuringia. The building, comprising 2 wards for the internal medicine clinic, took less than half a year to be completed. An accomplishment that we are deeply proud of.
Within the framework of this major project, a total of EUR 310 million were invested in the new university hospital Jena-Lobeda. In addition to 1300 m² of extra space for research and development, a new children’s clinic and a lecture hall with 300 seats were also constructed - enough lecture hall space to house all the students in a single academic year.
The ward building was manufactured at the Cadolto factory in Thuringia. 63 modules, including their interior furnishings, were built here. 95% of the structure was therefore prefabricated. The walls of the wards were painted in bright green or blue. The heating, the sanitary and lighting installations, as well as the floor and wall linings had already been finished in the factory before being transported to the site.
Simultaneously, an extremely complicated underground engineering project was underway at the building site, the ground of which consisted of rock and soil class 7.
On site in Jena, only the pipes were connected and the remaining tasks were carried out.
Thanks to perfect planning and implementation, Cadolto was able to hand over the building successfully in September 2016 – and two patient wards from the old university hospital building could start functioning again in the Cadolto modular building.
